MRC Compression: This Mixed Raster Content compression is designed to create compact PDF files from image-only source files containing both texts and color or grayscale pictures or backgrounds, by separating the elements and applying optimized compression to each of them.
OCR: Optical character recognition is the process of extracting text from an image. This image can result from scanning a paper document or opening an electronic image file. The text becomes computer-editable, so that it does not have to be retyped manually.
Searchable PDF: A flavor of PDF that contains a bitmapped image of a document with textual content stored as hidden text. It maintains an identical appearance to the original document and enables other programs to search the file. Although the file size is typically larger than a normal PDF, Searchable PDF is the most useful format for archiving legal and other content-critical documents.
