
This horizontal ruler displays settings for the paragraph
with the insertion point or for selected paragraphs. To change the positions
of indents or tabs, drag the markers to the desired position.
To set a tab stop, check the
tab type button
to the left of the ruler. If it displays the tab type you want, just click
at the desired position. If not, click the button until the desired tab
type appears, then click the position
in the ruler.
First
line indent
This symbol defines the first line indent for the current
paragraph or selected paragraphs. Move it as desired. The first line indent
is relative to the paragraph's left indent. If you move the left indent,
the first line indent moves too.
Hanging indent and Left indent
This symbol defines a hanging indent and a a
left indent for the current paragraph or selected paragraphs. A hanging
indent is applied to all lines except the first. Hanging indent is relative
to the paragraph's left indent. Moving a hanging indent also moves the
left indent. Drag the symbol to the desired location.
Right indent
This symbol defines a right indent for all lines in the current
paragraph or selected paragraphs. Drag the symbol to the desired location.
Left tab
This symbol shows that a left tab is set at this location
in the current paragraph. Drag the symbol to left or right to move the
tab stop or to below the ruler to delete it. To change its type or tab
leader value, choose the Tabs dialog
box from the Format menu.
Right tab
This symbol shows that a right tab is set at this location
in the current paragraph. Drag the symbol to left or right to move the
tab stop or to below the ruler to delete it. To change its type or tab
leader value, choose the Tabs dialog
box from the Format menu.
Center tab
This symbol shows that a center tab is set at this location
in the current paragraph. Drag the symbol to left or right to move the
tab stop or to below the ruler to delete it. To change its type or tab
leader value, choose the Tabs dialog box from the Format menu.
Decimal tab
This symbol shows that a decimal tab is set at this location
in the current paragraph. Drag the symbol to left or right to move the
tab stop or to below the ruler to delete it. To change its type or tab
leader value, choose the Tabs dialog box from the Format menu.
Column dividers
The ruler now shows the locations of the columns and dividers
of the selected table. Drag a space between columns to move a column divider
left or right. You can also do this directly in the table.
