Showing and hiding the Character Map

The character map serves for easy insertion of non-keyboard characters. It appears as a ribbon in the Text Editor and in the Proofreader dialog box. In other cases it will be displayed in the Character Map dialog box. Grayed characters on the character map indicate that they are not enabled for recognition, but they can be inserted.

You can use the character map

  1.  
    • during editing and proofreading,

    • when training characters,

    • entering additional characters for recognition,

    • changing reject character.

To display the character map in the Text Editor:

  • Click in the Formatting toolbar to display the character map. Click the arrows to display non-visible parts of the character map or

  • Select Character Map from the View menu, then Show.

To display the character map in the Train Character dialog box:

  • Click beside the text box.

To display the character map in the OCR panel of the Options dialog box:

  1. Select Tools / Options.

  2. On the OCR panel, click near to the text boxes under Additional characters, or Reject character.

To hide the character map in the Text Editor:

To define character set display:

  • In the Character Map dialog box, right-click on an empty area in the dialog box and use the shortcut menu.

  • Select View / Character Map / Character Sets and then select all the character sets that you want displayed in the character map.

  • Right-click the Ribbon Character Map in the Text Editor and use the shortcut menu.

To hide character sets:

  • Click the character set again.

To display recently used characters only:

  • Select Recent Characters Only from a shortcut menu, or from the View menu.

The 36 recently used characters will be displayed. This is useful if you work with a limited set of characters to be inserted.

  • The character map can be used to insert Asian characters, providing you system has its East Asian Language support enabled, and the selected text is using an Asian-enabled font.
