Paragraph dialog box

Alignment: Select left, centered, right or justified for the selected paragraph(s). Justified text is aligned both left and right with extra space added between words as necessary. In aligning texts, the Text Editor does not introduce new hyphenations.

Indentation

• Enter or select a value in the Left selection box to indent the selected paragraph(s) from the left margin. To move the text into the left margin area, enter a negative value.

• You can change the unit of measurement in the Text Editor panel of the Options dialog box.

• Enter or select a value in the Right selection box to indent the selected paragraph(s) from the right margin. To move the text into the right margin area, enter a negative value.

Special

• Click First Line to indent the first line of the selected paragraph(s) by the defined amount.

• Click Hanging indent to indent all lines except the first lines.
  
  These special indents are applied in addition to any left indent for the full paragraph.
   

• Click (none) to remove special indenting.

By: Select a value for a first-line or hanging indent. This box will be cleared if you click (none) in the Special box.

Spacing

• Enter or select a value in the Before selection box to define how much extra space to place before selected paragraph(s).

• Enter or select a value in the After selection box to define how much extra space to place after selected paragraph(s).

Any extra space after a paragraph is added to any extra space before the next paragraph.

Line Spacing

• Select one of the values to define the amount of line spacing for the selected paragraph(s).

The values Single, 1.5 lines and Double take their spacing from the point size of the largest character in each line. Define a value in points in the At edit box, if you choose At least or Exactly.

Single line spacing usually needs a value one point size greater than the character size.

Bullets: Select Bulleted to place bullets at the start of the selected paragraphs.

Click Tabs... to open the Tabs dialog box.
 

• Paragraph alignment and bullet placing can be done directly in the Text Editor's Formatting toolbar. You can also place and modify tabs in the Text Editor's ruler.
