For those upgrading from OmniPage 15, in addition to the two sets of new features, there are other changes to note:
Screen views
At the program start you can choose from three screen views. The Classic View is the same as in OmniPage 15.
Main User Interface
The main UI has two more panels: Help and Workflow Status. Enable them in the Window menu. With OmniPage 17 the Easy Loader panel is added.
The help is displayed on the Help panel and not in the separate HtmlHelp application of Windows. This way it can always be visible during your work.
The Workflow Status panel gives detailed progress indication and additional information about a running or a completed workflow. In OmniPage 15 the Job Results dialog box served for this purpose, and could be displayed only after a workflow has been completed. From version 16 on, it is available also during workflow running.
New document
After closing all your documents in OmniPage you cannot load or scan documents until you click New in the Standard toolbar or select New from the File menu. This change allows the program to handle multiple documents.
Direct OCR
The Direct OCR panel is removed from the Options dialog box, because you do not need to register applications for Direct OCR. It is enough to enable the feature using the Enable Direct OCR check box.
The Enable Direct OCR check box is available on the General panel of the Options dialog box.
The following applications are supported by Direct OCR: MS Office 2000, XP, 2003, 2007 (Word, Excel, Power Point) and Corel Word Perfect 12, X3.
Drag-and-drop recognition
A whole page image can be dragged-and-dropped into an open target application (e.g. Microsoft Word). You cannot use this feature for a selected zone.
Layout description
The Layout description choices are also available on the OCR panel.
OmniPage Document
The term “Extended OmniPage Document” does not exist any more. Instead, there is an Embed and an Extract button in the following dialog boxes:
User dictionary files
Training files
Zone template files
Image enhancement template files.
In OmniPage 16 and 17 you can add as many items from these as needed.
Workflow Assistant
The arrangement of the Assistant panels in OmniPage 16 and 17 is different from in version 15. Selecting steps and changing settings is now more convenient.

When you create a new step (click Next) in the Workflow Assistant, you can immediately see the relevant options to that step on the right side of the panel. You can make your changes.

You can easily replace the automatically added step with a different one.

You can also display the options panel of a particular step if you click its icon in the OmniPage Toolbox when a user-defined workflow is selected. If the workflow is not running you can change settings. If the workflow is running the panel is displayed but settings cannot be modified.
