Marking
You can mark pieces of recognized text in the Text Editor.
You can do this by selecting words manually, or you can search for texts
and mark them automatically. The marking can be a highlight, a strikeout,
a selection for later redacting or (when searching) immediate redacting.
Redacting
This is when texts are blacked out to make them unreadable
and unsearchable. It is used for hiding confidential information from
those unauthorized to see it.
You can mark and redact words or phrases by
selection or by searching.
Protective copies
Redaction cannot be undone once a page is left. Therefore,
redaction should be done on the copy of a document, so the original remains
available. It is useful to make and save a copy that is marked for redaction,
since that shows which text pieces are removed, but keeps them readable.
Procedure
This procedure tells you how to mark a document for redaction
using searching and selection, have the markings reviewed and then perform
redaction.
Load, recognize and optionally
proof and edit a document you want to redact.
Save the recognition results
to have a clean copy of the original document (recommended).
To mark for redaction by searching,
select Find and Mark Text in the Edit menu.
Choose the Mark Text tab, enter
a search string and click Find Next.
To mark this occurrence and move to the next one, click Mark
for redacting; to skip the occurrence click Find
Next.
Continue until there are no more
occurrences. Perform new searches as desired.
Review the marking in the Text
Editor. If the Mark Text toolbar is not visible, enable it under View/Toolbars.
Select the Mark
for redacting tool
, then select any other text strings
you want marked. Click the tool again to finish marking. To remove a marking,
select it and click the Mark for redacting
tool.
Save the OmniPage document (recommended),
then export the marked recognition results to a convenient file type,
e.g. PDF. You can pass this file to colleagues for confirmation of the
marking.
When the marking is reviewed,
open the OmniPage document (if necessary) and make changes as required.
Press the Redact
document tool
. A dialog
box gives you the chance to have redaction applied to a copy. Choose
this to get two documents, one marked for redaction and one redacted;
export these to store the marked version and distribute the redacted version.
