Five winning stories will be selected by a panel of judges, and the winning entrants will each receive an Amazon Kindle 2 as well as Dragon NaturallySpeaking upgrades for three years.
Hi, I am the Alternate Media Specialist at Santa Ana Community College. Now you are probably wondering, "What is an Alternate Media Specialist"? I am the person who is responsible for all the disabled students attending Santa Ana College getting their books and education in an accessible format. This means scanning or creating text in Braille, audio or electronic format whichever is accessible for each student individually.
Quite honestly, the reason I speak Dragon is because I am a lousy typist. I might have to transcribe a notetaker's notes or an instructor's test to be converted into Braille for a blind student. I may need to transcribe a two hour movie in order to add captionins for a deaf student. Dragon makes my life much easier and I have depended on Dragon Naturally Speaking for several years now.
This year, because of the California Schools budget and the failing economy, we have been told that we will not be able to purchase the upgrades for Dragon Naturally Speaking. Since my software is in our computer lab, I am not the only one who will be affected by these cutbacks. I am hoping to win this contest so that myself and our disabled students who depend on Dragon will have the best of Dragon Naturally Speaking for the next three years no matter what the budget looks like.
