I am a physician in private practice and have been using Dragon NaturallySpeaking software to dictate all of my notes for several years now. Being able to dictate my notes rather than handwrite them allowed me to become much more efficient in my practice. It takes me much less time to generate a patient encounter note, thus letting me spend more time with each patient to address their needs. Furthermore, it allows me to create very complete notes, and it actually increased reimbursements from health insurance because of that. My notes are obviously 100% legible (as opposed to my typical doctor handwriting) and other doctors love getting my consultations. When I was audited by one health-insurance company, they issued a thank-you letter based on the quality of my notes. Dragon NaturallySpeaking is my virtual EMR and the government will have to force me to give it up in favor of any electronic medical record software. Dragon cost me less than $1000 whereas any EMR worth their salt would be at least 20-50 times as much, not to mention monthly fees to maintain it. Thanks, but no thanks! I will keep my Dragon NaturallySpeaking software!
