I SPEAK DRAGON: Using Dragon with ADHD Grandson

In the past 6 months I have seen many ads on TV about Dragon Speaking. They gained my interest more and more. I began to think about how it would help me write about my life history with typing it all down. I type for a living and to sit at home and type some more is just not what I want to do. So initially, I thought about it just for me. But then one day I was talking to my 11 year old grandson, Logan, about writing a history report. My grandson has ADHD and one of the problems most of them have is concentrating long enough to write something down. He knows what to say and what he needs to write but it gets lost almost right from the beginning because it is difficult to spell and read and think at the same time as writing. He is very smart, almost too smart. haha. He is a straight A student for the first time in his life in sixth grade. He works very hard to get it . Studying does not come easy for him. Frustration sets in and he becomes unable to continue. Sometimes 30 minutes of studying is all he can do at a time. I want him to find middle school fun but if he doesn't have some help in writing things, he could falter. So I decided to buy Dragon for me and for him. I thought since he was going into middle school, maybe it would give him more confidence to talk the reports out rather than write them. He can proofread his work and make sure that is what he wants to say and thus, turn in good reports. He was very excited about it. It was downloaded onto his computer and he was using it alot until summer hit!!! Then he came to my house and wanted to use mine but I told him he couldn't because it was geared to my voice. He says, "No grandma, you can put an profile on it. I can set it up for me to use to when I am out here." Seriously???!!! This kid knows more about Dragon than I do! He loves the program and especially the headset. It was easy to set up on the computers and now that it is summer, I am going to try to encourage him to sit down at the end of the day write a journal entry on the happenings of the day. Summer is full of fun and not much down time when you 11 years old. I want him to get proficient in its uses so when school starts in the fall he can just sit down and get with it. I believe this program is the best I have ever seen especially for people in my age group where we don't have as much time to sit and write things down. I think the program is especially beneficial for those like my grandson, Logan, who is exceptional bright and an excellent story teller, but is unable to get past the embarrassment of not being able to read and write as well as others. They know the material but getting it from the brain to paper is not as easy for those with ADHD/ADD as those who do not. Like I said, it was worthe the $100 for both programs. I have not used mine as much, being "older" I am still trying to get used to it. Logan toldl me when I get ready to learn more about it, he will come over and help me. He is a computer guru, like most kids his age. Will ever get around to speaking out my memoirs? Oh yeah I will, but like my grandson, summer is here and to sit in the house on beautiful days (when I am not working) is taboo!! Thanks again for the program. It has and will continue to change my grandson's life, all for the better. If anyone else reads this, please consider getting the program for those who have concentration problems. It makes learning fun and interesting and fast. We love Dragon!!!
