I was surprised to see an article from Network World yesterday criticizing our radio ads. Paul McNamara, a News Editor for Network World wrote a piece that analyzed our radio ads. While Paul is certainly entitled to his opinion about our creative talents, he did make some points that I disagreed with. I was thrilled that he took the time to comment on our ads - I guess that means that people are hearing them ;-) It also gave me an opportunity to clear up some misconceptions about speech recognition along the way.
The biggest issue I had with his response was the view that Dragon was for adults, not for students. I have been amazed by the impact that Dragon has on some of our younger users and I spend a lot of time telling parents and educators how Dragon can help many students.
We did these series of ads because we wanted to share with consumers some of the exciting ways that our customers use Dragon. We tried to do it in an entertaining way while making our point. I'd love to hear what other people think. Are the ads lame? Are they effective? Do you have any other good ideas for ads that we should be playing?
