Increasing productivity with Dragon

Hop on over to the popular organization blog Unclutterer to see a new review of Dragon 10.  We all know that Dragon is fun to use, but the folks over at UC give Dragon a thumbs-up as a true productivity tool that helps people get more done in less time.

I have been using DNS Pref. ever since DNS Pref.7 first hit the retail stores. At that time I worked as a mechanical project supervisor, which ment that one of my duties was to submit daily reports back to company HQs. Since I am a two fingered typer, in order to save time at the end of each day, I purchased the brand new DNS Pref.7.  Aftr the initial training and a lot of "scratch thats", I got  the program to work fairly well and it definately saved me a lot of time. A couple of years later, I decided on a career change and started taking a number of courses in training to become an inspector DNS Pref.7 was extremely helpful in me getting my courses copleted on time. For the past five years I have been working as an inspector and constantly use DNS to write up my reports both in my inspection vehicle and at my desk, over which time I have up graded to DNS perf.8, DNS Perf.9 and now DNS pref.10. This last up-grade caused a fair amount of grief,  first in order to get my laptop to run the program properly I had to add an extra 1 Gig of ram, whitch actualy meant buying two 1Gig cards to replace the two 500 mb cards that my laptop came with. Secondly version 10 did not seem to work as well when dictating to Nuance's PDF Converter 3 Pro program as version 9 did (glichy, a lot of recognition errors). Two months ago I purchased a new laptop which came with Vista Business and a factory Win XP Pro down-grade. After installing the XP Pro down-grade (so it's compatable with all of our other office machines), I installed my DNS Pref.10 which started to work better than it had been working on my old (3.5 years old) laptop. Now my problem was that my PDF Converter 3 Pro program would not load on my new laptop it keep saying it could not be activated because it had exceeded it's maximum number of installs, so I bought PDF Converter 5 Pro. this caused a great number of problems because PDf con 5 Pro did not work the same as the earlyer 3 Pro version and in my efforts to rectify this problem I spent several hours on the phone with support First being told that DNS doesn't work with PDF converter pro and no matter how may times I explained that I had been using DNS with PDF Converter 3 pro  for sevral years and now I could not use the new PDF converter 5 pro without going through a number of extra steps, the tech that was helping me could not seem to understand (or want to) what I was realy saying and sent me to a link to thier FAQ page. On my second try at tech suport I was luckier and was connected with someone who had a much better grasp of english and I was able to get this person to understand the problem and in the end it was determined that there was a problem with in the PDF Converter 5 Pro program which the Tech thanked me for bringing to thier attention and said thier program writers would work on to fix. He was also able to get my PDF Converter 3 Pro program to have one more activation so I could get back to work. Evan though this turned out to be quite an ordeal, in the end I was very happy to be able to get things back on track, so I could get my work done. I have always liked using DNS and have been responsible for at least 12 other people starting to use DNS. I always say its like star trec you tell the computer to do something and it does. It makes the computer work the way it should.

I would like to be a Happy Customer, but the fact that DNS 10 constantly corrupts the speech files, which means that I lose all my customizations, custom words, and recognition history and have to start all over again, makes me very unhappy.

If only Nuance would recognize that solving this corruption problem is JOB 1!  (Blaming it on power surges, antivirus software, etc:  nice try!  None of my other software has corruption problems.)

I am a School Psychologist and have been a DNS user since 9.0 was introduced. I now can't work without it and have introduced it to many of my collegues. I was waondering if there would be any advantage o my upgrading to 10.0 since most of my usage is in report writeing (even though I do use it for e-mail, IM, etc.).

to Rick Younkin: I have used 7,8,9,and 10 and if I were you I would stick with 9, unless you are buying a new computer, in which case I would consider buying 10. I found that I had too many gliches after installing 10 on my 3 year old laptop, many of which (but not all) have dissapeared since I installed 10 on my new laptop. Nevertheless I would never be with out DNS, I'm totally dependent on it for work ,as I'm not a typer.

DNS 10 sucks. SP1 won't even install. Constantly reboots . knowledge base is useless. Can't talk to they without paying for every little thing
